AIR MALTA has made a significant move with the announcement that it is to begin a direct service between Gatwick and Catania, Sicily, starting 2 May, the day after the country joins the EU. The flights, which will operate three times weekly, represent a significant expansion in Air Malta”s UK network, and provide a direct link between Britain and the growing leisure market of Sicily. Flights are full service but will adopt competitive one-way fares for maximum customer flexibility. Air Malta also flies between Catania and its home making two-centre holidays a practical proposition. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, and Catania is the gateway to the major tourism attractions of the region including Taormina, Mount Etna and Siracusa.
