KAZAKHSTAN'S state-owned national airline Air Kazakhstan has been declared bankrupt, the company has confirmed. It has not flown since February. The bankruptcy leaves Air Astana, in which BAe Systems has a 49% interest (the government, once again, with the balance) as the dominant airline in the oil-rich central Asian state. Air Astana was set up in 2001 and named after the country's new post-Soviet capital. It now has a fleet of three New Generation Boeing 737-700/800, three Boeing 757-200 and one Fokker 50. It flies twice weekly to London.
