AIR FRANCE returned to Algeria on Saturday after a break of more than eight years. The airline suspended services in December 1994 after an extremist Islamic group seized an Air France jet at Algiers Airport murdering three hostages before they themselves were killed after taking the aircraft to Marseilles. Air France will initially offer three daily flights to Algiers. Air Algerie currently uses a Boeing 767 for its three times daily service, operated in partnership with Air Lib until the latter went out of business in January this year. In recent months, flying to Algeria has become increasingly difficult with the collapse of Khalifa Airways. About one million passengers each way are expected to fly between France and Algeria over the coming 12 months. Air Littoral operates to Algeria from Nice and Montpellier. http://www.airfrance.com
