AIR EUROPA of Spain has become the first airline to commit to the new 245-seat Airbus A350-800. The Majorca-based airline, hitherto a sole Boeing operator (see left), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for ten aircraft and two further options due to be delivered between 2010 and 2012. Air Europa has selected GEnx engines from GE Aircraft Engines for the aircraft and will use a configuration of 300 to 330 seats. As part of Air Europa”s plans to renew and expand its current fleet, it has signed a contract to receive one A340-200 leased from Airbus in 2005 and intends to lease two new A330-200s in the spring of 2006.
