CONCORDE lost the lower part of one of its four rudders on Wednesday, 27 November, on its way from Heathrow to New York and is being investigated by the Air Accident Investigation Branch. BA emphasized that there was no danger to aircraft or passengers and the aircraft landed safely in New York, returning to service several days later with a new part fitted. The rudder is not normally used in the cruise and only comes into its own when landing in a stiff cross wind.
