AIR BERLIN has confirmed two additional British airports as first reported by ABTN on 28 June. From 1 November the airline is to offer Manchester to Berlin-Tegel, Dusseldorf, and Paderborn. Paderborn will also have non-stop flights from Southampton three times weekly. The airline”s very successful Stansted operation connects with Berlin-Tegel, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Munster-Osnabruck, Nuremberg, Paderborn and Palma de Mallorca. In an interesting development Air Berlin is to equip its entire fleet of 37 aircraft with AIRTRACK”, a new standard for cabin installed moving-map systems. The German airline thus becomes the launch customer for this system jointly developed by Lufthansa Technik AG and TEAC Aerospace of the US. AIRTRACK” is a satellite-based moving-map system that affords passengers a highly detailed view of the earth”s surface and of the route being flown. The system generates precise 2D and 3D land maps, ie satellite-produced images as well as aerial photographs. The high resolution system allows for even individual streets and roads to be displayed in precise detail on the onboard monitors.
