AIR BERLIN and Germania, two major German budget airlines, have agreed to start a close co-operation immediately. From the end of March this year, three Germania Fokker F-100 ” in Air Berlin colours ” will fly Air Berlin City-Shuttle routes. At the same time, Germania Express will transfer its routes from Hamburg, Berlin and D”sseldorf to Zurich and Vienna to Air Berlin. Furthermore, Air Berlin will also fly between Munich and Vienna. All Germania tickets will be honoured. However, from now on, the mentioned flights can be booked at Air Berlin prices only. Each one-way flight is available from E29 including taxes. Hinrich Bischoff, owner of Germania, stresses that airlines like Air Berlin and Germania have to fight off an increasing number of no frills competitors from all over Europe. Joachim Hunold, managing director and co-owner of Air Berlin, added that the two Berlin-based carriers might soon co-operate on other routes, too. Air Berlin recently agreed to a relationship with Austrian start-up, Niki, the airline of former Formula One ace Niki Lauda.
