AIR ALG”RIE has signed a contract with Airbus for the purchase of five wide-bodied twin-engined A330-200s to replace its elderly Boeing 727s. Delivery of the aircraft will begin in January 2005. The transaction is eligible for financial support from the European Export Credit Agencies. In Air Alg”rie”s standard layout, the A330-200 will offer a three-class configuration, or up to 302 seats in a single class layout. Airbus confirms that the A330/A340 family has booked 815 total orders from more than 60 customers to date. Air Alg”rie has signed a contract for six ATR 72-500s to develop its short distance international and regional market. These aircraft will replace Air Algerie”s fleet of Fokker 27s.
