Aeroflot has placed an order for 50 Russian-built MC-21 medium-range aircraft, making it the largest customer of the aircraft.
Under an agreement with Rostec, Aeroflot will lease the aircraft for a total of US$5 billion. Aeroflot says the aircraft will be configured to carry 169 passengers, with 16 business-class seats and 153 economy, and plans to operate them on both domestic and international routes.
The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2020, with the entire order set for completion by 2026. Aeroflot will lease the MC-21s for an initial term of 12 years with an option to extend the agreement by two years up to three times.
The MC-21 has the widest fuselage in its class of narrow-body aircraft and features an expanded aisle and tilt-forward stowage with expanded capacity. Manufacturer Irkut Corporation says it plans to equip Aeroflot’s entire order with in-flight wifi service.
