AEROFLOT, the Russian national carrier, could become the next airline to join the Skyteam consortium led by Air France and Delta Air Lines of the US
The airline has officially applied to join the alliance but has several hurdles to be overcome, including that of consistent quality.
The airline”s extensive route network would make Aeroflot an ideal partner for airlines wishing to develop into the Russian domestic market.
The news broke as Aeroflot lost a bid to take control of its main base, Moscow's run-down Sheremetyevo Airport, to Russian financial-industrial Alfa Group, who has no airport experience.
