AER LINGUS has lost its chairman. In dramatic news over the weekend Tom Mulcahy, a former chief executive at Allied Irish Bank (AIB), Ireland's largest bank, resigned from his current post as chairman of Aer Lingus. He was identified by the Irish Times as one of 10 current or former AIB executives who invested in offshore accounts between 1989 and 1998 to illegally avoid paying tax. Under Mulcahy AE has turned itself from a loss making carrier into a profitable forward looking all Airbus operation.
