LONDON CITY AIRPORT is to lose the busy Aer Lingus Dublin service at the end of the summer season due to the airline phasing out its BAe 146 fleet (Gatwick ” Dublin having already gone). However with British Airways reporting that its new LCY operation to Frankfurt, Glasgow and Paris is attracting more than the budgeted passenger loads Dublin as a destination cannot be ruled out. Cityjet, the Air France owned Irish airline is already an operator at London City (AF ” Orly) and could become another contender. Also lost, perhaps just short term, are Swiss routes to Basel and Geneva, part of that airline”s massive retrenchment. Lufthansa, who do not appear to have suffered from the BA incursion onto what was a sole operation to Frankfurt, are thought to be reconsidering Munich, a brand new route quickly dropped after 11 September. With the opening of Munich 2 (see last week”s ABTN) further operations from the central London airport would appear to make sense. http://www.londoncityairport.com
