BELFAST CITY AIRPORT has lost the latest attempt to operate an air route to Dublin, with Aer Arann which only introduced the twice daily service in June, pulling the operation last Monday. The company had initially aimed to carry more than 40,000 passengers per year on the 40 minute flights using an ATR 42. The Irish regional airline had hoped to provide a competitive alternative to road and rail links but even with an airport as close to the centre as Belfast City the project had not been viable. http://www.aerarann.ie
