LUTON, together with Belfast International, Cardiff and the other airports that make up the TBI Group is to a have a new owner, Abertis of Spain, which calls itself an infrastructure operator. Abertis” business to date has largely concentrated on car parks, motorways, logistics and telecommunications although it does have an interest in Bogota's Eldorado Airport. A 10% partner is Aena the national Spanish airport operator. The deal is worth ”551.3m and leaves the present management in place whilst giving property developer Jersey - based Stan Thomas and family a rewarding exit. Whilst Luton Airport has expanded in recent years its performance against the much poorer located Stansted has been disappointing. The new owners have an interesting challenge.
