AMERICAN budget carrier ATA says it plans to fly to destinations in Europe starting next year and has confirmed it has opened discussions with German airport Cologne-Bonn. Now celebrating its 31st year of operation, ATA is the 10th largest passenger carrier in the US (based on revenue passenger miles) and operates significant scheduled services from Chicago-Midway, Hawaii, Indianapolis, New York and San Francisco to over 40 business and vacation destinations. Its aircraft fleet include the Boeing 757-300 which would seem ideal for a low cost transatlantic operation.
