ABX AIR (Airborne Express) is a US-based cargo airline that you probably have never heard of. However it employees 7,000 staff and has a fleet of 24 Boeing 767s, 18 DC-8s, and 74 DC-9s. An inspection of its facilities two weeks ago by the US Transportation Security Administration were subsequently reported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the US Attorney's Office. In an ever security conscious America it seems that the company has terminated employment of several staff after discovering that they had made significant and material misrepresentations on their work application forms. ABX Air is known to use immigrant workers. According to local press reports the number fired could be as high as 300. (see also AMERICA ” this issue).
