SCOT AIRWAYS, still very much run by husband and wife team Roy and Merlin Suckling but with Brian Souter of Stagecoach as a majority shareholder, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. The airline currently has a fleet of seven Dornier 328 turbo props and says that it has no expansion plans for 2006, although it will continue to develop its highly successful charter operation, concentrating on premier and football league clubs, where the Dornier”s 32-seat capacity is ideal. With many routes not operating or on a reduced basis over the weekend, Saturday soccer matches fit in perfectly with the programme. Charlton Athletic were a recent beneficiary, able to retreat quickly from Newcastle after a fixture that was abandoned before starting, unlike the supporters who had to return by surface transport.
