ALPHA ONE AIRWAYS is about to take off; a new British domestic airline with a 19-year-old failed ”A” level student in charge, Martin Halstead (left). Martin does have some notable attributes having raised the funds for a 19-seat BAe Jetstream 31 (with a further two ”under negotiation”), and a commercial pilot”s licence, gained at Oxford Air Training. With the IATA code K9 the airline expects to start services shortly, offering twice daily flights from the Isle of Man ” Southampton and Blackpool and further routes, including Isle of Man ” Edinburgh and Cardiff to follow. Whilst much of Alpha One's traffic is expected to come from the business sector, Halstead claims a substantial leisure market to and from the Isle of Man, which in fairly recent times has lost its Heathrow services. A December first revenue flight looks possible.
