LONDON CITY AIRPORT was again in the news last week with the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) moving its one-millionth passenger since the extension from Canning Town was opened last December. The LCY ” DLR success is proof, if its is needed, that one way to get airport traffic off the road is to provide some kind of mass people mover transportation. Since March the dedicated bus services from Canary Wharf and Liverpool Street have been discontinued but the popular free car valet service for the short stay car park has been retained. According to managing director Richard Gooding there has been a reduction in taxi use of the airport and car parking has declined in spite of a 16.4% rise in passenger numbers since this time last year.
