Budget hotel chain Travelodge is to spend £41.5 million on building six new hotels in the UK.
The company will build two properties in the London suburbs of Greenwich and Raynes Park, as well as Glasgow, Southampton, Ryde on the Isle of Wight, and Winnersh in Berkshire.
The six new properties will boost Travelodge’s portfolio to 517 hotels and 38,359 rooms when they open during 2014. The two London hotels will help the company to maintain its position as the UK capital’s biggest hotel brand with 62 properties.
The first hotel to open will be Ryde in April, followed by Glasgow and Southampton in July, then Greenwich and Raynes Park (both September), and finally Winnersh in December 2014.
Paul Harvey, Travelodge’s managing director for property, said: “We are very excited to be starting on site to build six hotels today in prime locations across the UK.
“These developments represent a total investment of £41.5 million and will create 500 new jobs. They will be a great addition to the Travelodge portfolio and offer consumers more choice for good value accommodation.
“All of these six hotels are scheduled to open throughout next year and we are hopeful that our Glasgow hotel which is our largest hotel in the city will be ready for the Commonwealth Games.”
