Travelodge opens two new hotels

By Molly Dyson / 31 July 2019 / Contact Reporter

Budget hotel chain Travelodge has opened two new hotels in Winchester and Letchworth Garden City, representing a nearly £15 million investment and creating 35 jobs.

Winchester Travelodge features 62 rooms and is located near the city’s cathedral. The landlord invested £7.5 million in the property, which employs 15 people. The hotel also offers a “Business Floor” and the brand’s new ‘premium economy’ SuperRooms with upgraded amenities.

The Winchester hotel is the first of two Travelodge plans to open in Hampshire this year, with its first property in Gosport due to launch by the end of 2019.

Meanwhile, Letchworth Garden City Travelodge offers 73 rooms and an onsite Bar-Cafe restaurant, as well as free parking. Representing a £7 million investment, the hotel created 22 jobs for the community and is the first to be opened under a growth programme targeted at Hertfordshire. Other locations due to open in the county include Hertford/Ware, Hoddesdon/Broxbourne, Potters Bar, Radlett, Rickmansworth, Stevenage, Waltham Cross and Watford.

With the addition of these two properties, Travelodge now operates a portfolio of 583 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain. It plans to open 100 locations over the next five years, with a particular focus on busy railway stations.

Commenting on the Winchester and Letchworth Garden City openings, Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed said: “We are delighted to officially open our first hotels in Winchester and Letchworth Garden City and extend our UK network to 566 locations. Both hotels have got off to a flying start and are set for a busy year ahead.

“Britain’s travellers are changing. We expect more and increasingly we travel to a wider range of places. More and more of us are working away from home during the week, and we’re taking more long weekends. Therefore, Travelodge now has to satisfy the needs of travellers who just want the essentials at a low price, and of those who also value the little extras. Therefore, we’re focused on making sure we can offer travellers the right choice, in the right place, at the right place.”
