THE SAVOY, the grandest of London”s grand hotels, has yet another new owner. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Inc, who only purchased the Thameside property just a year ago. It is being acquired by Kingdom Hotels and Colony Capital in a deal worth $5.5bn. Kingdom and Colony will combine the Toronto-based Fairmont with the Asian-based Raffles hotel chain owned by Colony to create what it calls a "luxury global hotel leader." It will have 120 hotels in 24 countries with the two brands being kept separate. Fairmont operates such famous properties as the historic Chateau Frontenac in Quebec, the Monte Carlo Grand Hotel in Monaco, the Hotel George V in Paris and the Hotel des Bergues in Geneva.
