BREAKING NEWS is that Brown”s Hotel, Mayfair, now part of the Rocco Forte Group, is expected to be re-opened later today by Baroness Thatcher, the former prime minister happily recovered from her hospital visit last week. One of London”s historic hotels, it was originally opened by James Brown, Lord Byron”s valet in 1837. It has since witnessed some remarkable events including the first ever telephone call made by Alexander Graham Bell, Rudyard Kipling writing The Jungle Book, the Greek royal family going into exile and Queen Victoria regularly popping in for the hotel”s celebrated afternoon tea. Over the last 20 months Brown”s Hotel has undergone a ”19m renovation programme under the watchful eye of Rocco Forte Hotels” Director of Design, Olga Polizzi.
