IHG Hotels & Resorts is planning to grow its presence in northern Europe through an extended partnership with hotel operator Tristar GmbH.
This expanded agreement between the companies will see the opening of 60 hotels in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and Italy by 2035.
Tristar GmbH specialises in operating branded hotels in the German-speaking DACH countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). It is already due to open four Holiday Inn Express hotels, including a property at Dusseldorf airport, in this region during 2022, as well as a Hotel Indigo in Vienna this year.
Willemijn Geels, vice president, development, Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are delighted to announce this long-term partnership with our trusted partner Tristar GmbH and bring such a strong collection of hotels to the DACH region.
“The recent return of travel has been strong in northern Europe, and we look forward to providing new destinations for guests to discover, bringing our much-loved brands to new locations, and providing the essentials for business travel with these strategic signings.”
The DACH region continues to be a “key strategic market” for IHG, with 88 hotels currently open in Germany and 27 properties in the development pipeline, including those operated by Tristar GmbH.
There are also 17 hotels across IHG’s brands currently open in Austria and Switzerland with six properties in the pipeline. IHG said the new deal with Tristar GmbH “expands the growth ambition to Italy and Poland”.
Jochen Weishaupt, chief development officer at Tristar GmbH, added: “These new openings and signings are testament to the strong relationship between Tristar GmbH and IHG.
“Our target of 60 signings by 2035 is ambitious, but we are inspired by the challenge, and supported in our goals by industry powerhouse IHG Hotels & Resorts.”
