HILTON has got into motor racing in a very big way, announcing a global sponsorship deal with team Maclaren Mercedes. The Watford, North London-based hotel management company, says that its partnership with Maclaren in the Formula One world championship, supports its international growth strategy, to increase the number of hotels in new and existing markets and position the company firmly among the new generation of young and affluent international travellers. Whilst invited to the launch of the sponsorship deal, at the Park Lane Hilton, ABTN was unable to attend and therefore not in a position to ask Hilton”s chief executive Ian Carter whether the organisation would now be promoting a Formula One race to include Park Lane and Hyde Park. It would however be an instant revenue generator for the hotel.
