BERLIN is to have a new 146-room five-star hotel from October, the
Hotel de Rome. Part of the ever expanding Rocco Forte Group, and
located on Bebelplatz in the centre of the city, it is a conversion of
an existing building constructed in 1889. The head office of Dresdner
Bank until 1945 it makes use of its full architectural splendour
offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The restaurant will
seat 120 and will look onto an intimate inner courtyard which will be
used for al fresco dining during the summer months. The Opera Court
is a grand room which will feature its original ceiling; it will be
the focal point for coffee and afternoon tea. The spa will have a
sauna, steam bath, relaxation area, five treatment rooms and a fully
equipped gymnasium. The original "jewel room" of the bank vault will
somewhat uniquely house a 20-metre swimming pool. The ballroom has a
capacity for up to 250 people and usefully the hotel has its own 30
underground parking spaces.
