WESTMINSTER, that is the British House of Commons, returned to what it calls normality after an election said by some to be boring. As already reported Alistair Darling has retained his seat and position as minister for transport. Reporting to him, as parliamentary under secretary of state for transport is Karen Buck MP for Regents Park and Kensington North. Before being elected to Parliament in 1997 she worked for the Labour Party in the Campaigns Office and before that as a Policy Officer specialising in health. She has also been engaged by a charity specialising in employment for the disabled and at the London Borough of Hackney in the same field. Karen Buck served on the Work and Pensions Select Committee since 2001 and before that was on the Select Committee on Social Security from 1997 to 2001. She was also Chair of the London Group of Labour MPs 1998-2005. Sadly leaving the House is David Burnside, the former British Airways director of public affairs who nailed his colours to the Ulster Unionist, a party in complete collapse. Watch for David to make a PR comeback.
