JETBLUE Airways has now put into service its first Embraer 190, an interesting development in aircraft terms for one of the leading budget airline operators. Industry talk is that if JetBlue can make the 190 work, rather than the bigger ubiquitous Airbus and Boeing short haul aircraft, others will join the bandwagon. On offer are 2 + 2 leather seats, live TV and 100 channels of satellite radio. JetBlue plans to accept seven Embraer 190s in 2005 and 19 aircraft in 2006. The airline has a total of 101 on firm order, with options for 100 more through 2016.
