Memphis Airport is having somewhat of a problem regarding its name. It seems that some of the good folks of Tennessee have been lobbying for the gateway (a once daily service to Amsterdam entitles it to call itself ”International”) to be renamed Elvis Presley International in honour of one of the city”s favourite sons. Considering there is already a John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Louis Armstrong, John Lennon and John Kennedy airport (all deceased) plus George Bush (Houston ” and still around) the reasons for the authorities in Shelby County Memphis denying Elvis such an honour could be mystifying for those uninformed. The problem is the equally late Martin Luther King who also came from those parts. A compromise is now being sought. Memphis International Airport might well finish up being called ”The King”. Just ”The King Airport”, nothing else! It”s politically correct.
