Accor is to offer free wifi at the vast majority of its UK hotels, although guests will have to pay for a premium high-speed internet service.
The French hotel company has completed the roll-out of free basic wifi at 194 of its properties in the UK and Ireland across Ibi, Mercure, Novotel, Pullman and M Gallery hotels. But it will not be available at its three Formule 1 hotels in the UK. Accor's Sofitel properties already offer free wifi.
Free wifi is now available in both rooms and public spaces at these hotels although speed will be restricted to 512k per second. If guests require faster wifi they will have to pay for this service at a rate of £3 for 24 hours access - this faster fibre optic option is available in "many properties".
Thomas Dubaere, managing director for Accor UK and Ireland, said: “Free wi-fi has become the norm at many coffee houses or bars but in the past with hotel groups it can vary from property to property, and differ between the public areas to bedrooms.
“We recognise that guests expect to have free wi-fi wherever they are in the hotel and for it to be a quick, high quality connection."
