Hotel booking specialist HRS has signed a distribution deal with Sabre to distribute “thousands” of independent hotels through the GDS.
The multi-year agreement, which was unveiled at the ACTE conference in Barcelona, is similar to the one between HRS and rival GDS Amadeus last year.
HRS already has a distribution deal with Sabre’s online self-booking specialist Get There.
Tobias Ragge (pictured), CEO of HRS, said: “Sabre has a great deal to offer HRS and we are delighted to share some of our 250,000 hotels in our portfolio with them.
“The old legacy world is still heavily used by TMCs and we basically want to make our content available through all of the booking channels that a corporate may want to use.”
David Gross, Sabre’s senior vice president of global supplier commerce, added: “HRS is an industry leader and we look forward to working with them to make their content available to Sabre-connected travel agents in their efficient workflow.”
Ragge said that HRS would “definitely be talking to other guys” within the GDS industry – the other major global player is Travelport which owns the Galileo and Worldspan systems.
He added that it had been a deliberate policy to sign up with Amadeus first due to its strength within the European Union before targeting Sabre with its significant presence in the US and Asia.
