The training sessions, which are designed to help travel agents book cars quickly and simply, are divided into three modules which can be taken over a period of two days. Trainees can choose which modules they take depending on their existing skills.
Two-way interaction
Each of the modules is conducted virtually, so trainees can complete the course without leaving their office desk. Travel agents can choose the time and day for each session, and return to them at a later time for convenience. Trainees dial a number and interact with a live trainer, Andy Rodgers, as if they were in a real classroom.
Jane Lewis, a senior director for Travelport GDS explained: ”Our trainers work through PowerPoint examples; they show real availability searches and the actual booking process. They are also available to answer any questions.”
Travel agents using the system, known as Galileo CarMaster”, will have access to a live, instant inventory with rates in real time. The system has details of cars in more than 28,000 locations, as well as 21,000 car rental rates and 28 car rental companies worldwide.
Three modules
In the first module, which takes one hour, trainees will be introduced to the system, learn about its benefits and how to book cars, which takes less than a minute.
The second module takes 90 minutes. Travel agents will learn how to quickly find a particular city and how to communicate with car vendors. They will also learn how to help clients rent cars in time with their pre-booked flights.
The third module, which also takes 90 minutes, is more advanced and focuses on car descriptions, modifying and cancelling bookings as well as direct selling to clients who have already chosen their car vendor. It also covers e-vouchers, which enable the client to have a paperless transaction with the agency ” the client only needs to show their driving licence to the vendor before collecting their car.
The courses take place on July 29-31, August 19-21, September 23-25, October 28-30, November 25-27 and December 16-18.
