Travel management company (TMC) Reed and Mackay is holding a recruitment open evening, in a bid to find new staff members to underpin a rapid growth in business.
While the TMC normally recruits through word of mouth or headhunting, a “phenomenal” growth has left something of a vaccuum, said Paul Cook, Reed and Mackay’s director of operations.
“It is the organic growth of customers we already work with, and also we have been succesful in winning new business, which is being implemented over the next few months – that immediately triggers a need for more people,” said Cook.
The open evening will attract more applicants, he hopes: “We can only head hunt so many people,”he said. “I need to spread the net a bit wider, because I do need quite a few people.”
Cook said he had found it harder and harder to find the right calibre of applicants, as many TMCs, Reed and Mackay included, are looking after their staff better than in the past.
“We look at our people and we think they are an asset, how do we keep them? We’ve got to motivate them, support them, challenge them, and reward them,”he said.
Cook said he believed the skill of a TMC’s frontline staff is key to future growth in the business.
“If a client is paying fees for us to manage their travel needs, they’ve got to see a return on their investment, and added value,” he said, which only knowledgeable, experienced staff can deliver.
The open evening will be held on Wednesday, February 23, in central London. To register for a place, email [email protected] .
