Consultancy Simpila Healthy Solutions has launched a survey to assess the sector’s awareness of mental health when it comes to travel.
The “Business Travel & Mental Health Questionnaire” looks at mental health and the impact on business travellers.
Mental illness will impact one in four adults every year, and 49% of workplace absences are recognised as being caused by stress-related illnesses (anxiety and depression being the most common).
The ITM 2018 Procurement priorities released at the beginning of this year revealed that, on a scale of 1-8 (1 being most important and 8 being least important) number 1 was traveller security, with number 7 being traveller wellbeing.
Simpila founder Matthew Holman – who has worked in the travel industry for 20 years – told BBT that the issue still had a lot of stigma attached to it, but by working collaboratively the industry can raise awareness and support those who are struggling.
The survey results – which are anonymous – will be utilised by Simpila to help the consultancy create better support processes, products and solutions to help those who are struggling with mental health challenges.
