GTMC has postponed its one-day conference in London due to the storm which hit the southern half of the UK on Monday morning.
The guild made the decision to cancel Monday’s conference on the eve of the event “due to adverse weather conditions and numerous train cancellations”.
The event had been due to be held at the Park Lane Hotel in Mayfair with the HS2 project set to be one of the main topics of debate.
"Due to anticipated travel disruption caused by severe weather, the GTMC conference has been postponed, to enable our members and industry partners to rearrange their customers' business travel plans," said the GTMC in a statement on its website.
Many train companies operating to and from London cancelled early morning services so they could check that no debris or trees had fallen on to rail lines. Services on the London Underground also suffered severe disruption.
Airlines were also asked to reduce flights into Heathrow due to winds that reached up to 90 miles per hour in some places. Around 130 flights were cancelled at the airport.
There was also disruption at London City airport due to the storm.
