Companies working in the offshore sector are concentrating on controlling their travel costs, according to a survey by specialist travel agency ATP Instone.
The marine and energy TMC, which is part of the ATPI Group, said that the main priority for one -third of respondents in the sector was cost management during the next 12 months.
More than half (59 per cent) of travel managers also said that planning and booking flights in advance was the best way of reducing travel costs, while one-third said using preferred suppliers was the most efficient way to control spending.
However, the survey also revealed that almost 40 per cent of respondents were not aware that some TMCs offered preferential rates for the offshore sector, or that such rates existed.
Pieter Rieder, global head of energy and shipping sales at the ATPI Group, said: “Cost control is something that is in the spotlight for all businesses but our research shows that many travel buyers or managers don’t realise how much travel management companies can help reduce spend across the business.
“We know how important cost control is for our clients and we are constantly looking for new ways to help improve this whether it’s through consolidating their spend, implementing new technology platforms or reassessing their travel policy.”
