Newcastle airport has reported a strong start to the year after seeing almost 40,000 passengers pass through in January.
The north east airport saw passenger numbers jump 16.2 per cent, compared to the same period in 2016.
Strong demand on non-EU routes to the likes of Dubai, Geneva and the Canaries saw the airport’s international traffic grow by 26.8 per cent, while EU-scheduled traffic was up 30.6 per cent due to an increase in capacity on Ryanair, Easyjet and Jet2 services.
