A new facility that automatically displays the cheapest UK rail fare is up and running in a bid to tailor passengers” needs in line with services offered by airlines.
National Rail Enquiries has redesigned its website to allow travellers to search more easily for journeys based on the cheapest available fare, as well as to calculate season ticket costs (first/standard class) and print timetables.
The system allows passengers to search for a specific ticket around a number of dates, showing train times and when the ticket can be purchased.
”We are listening to passengers,” said National Rail Enquiries chief executive, Chris Scoggins. ”These enhancements will provide our customers with greater flexibility to plan rail journeys and encourage even more people to travel by train.”
Customers can tailor the system to only show a favoured train operator or to customise travel via a specific station or avoid changing at another one. The season ticket calculator facility ” the most requested option ” instantly shows what savings may be available.
”Passengers frequently tell us that they want accurate and up to date information about their rail journeys,” said Passenger Focus chairman, Colin Foxall. ”We welcome efforts by National Rail Enquiries to improve the range and choice available.”
The National Rail website ” www.nationalrail.co.uk ” is one of the UK”s most popular ” attracting 100m visits last year.
