Nicola Lomas will replace the BBC's Jamie Hindhaugh as chair of the Institute of Travel Management in January 2012.
Lomas, who is director of corporate travel services for global advertising giant, Omnicom Group, has been an ITM member since July 2008.
Before becoming a buyer, she worked for both American Express and American Airlines.
She immediately takes on the official role of chair-elect and will support Hindhaugh until he stands down in 2012.
Lomas said: "ITM is a wonderful organisation which has grown in stature over the years thanks to a succession of talented and driven chairmen.
"Being appointed is a real honour for me and a chance to give something back to the industry.
"I plan to support Jamie and help to take all the good work that's been done so far and consolidate it to ensure ITM members can continue to demonstrate the value of their roles to their businesses." Continuing the theme of buyer and supplier partnerships, the development of industry qualifications and understanding the role of the ITM regions will be the focus of her tenure from 2012.
Lomas said she would also be helping buyers to sell the value of managed travel to their stakeholders such as business units and the travellers themselves. Jamie Hindhaugh, ITM chairman said: "Nicola is a very professional, educated and driven individual. She is also someone who knows this industry well.
"It is clear that she has found the benefits of association participation invaluable to her development over the years and is well placed to help us create a stronger ITM for our existing and future members."
