The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has warned UK citizens to immediately leave the Libyan city of Benghazi.
The FCO issued a statement on its website today (January 24) due to an “imminent threat to Westerners” in Benghazi, which is the North African country’s second largest city after the capital Tripoli.
“We are aware of a specific, imminent threat to Westerners in Benghazi,” said the FCO on its statement. “We advise against all travel to Benghazi and urge any British nationals who are there against our advice to leave immediately.”
The warning follows just days after the attack by terrorists on a gas plant in an isolated region of Algeria which ended in the death of 38 hostages including six British citizens after a four-day siege of the plant.
