The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a warning against all but essential travel to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
British nationals currently in Bahrain have been advised to limit travel around the island to essential journeys only, after reports of violence during political protests in the kingdom.
The airport remains open, however, with home carrier Gulf Air continuing to operate flights.
A spokeswoman for Gulf Air told ABTN: “Gulf Air is operating as normal and our flights have remained largely unaffected at present.
“We have noticed a slight dip in traffic regionally and in bookings, however our international flights have not been affected and we believe bookings will bounce back soon.”
Political unrest in the Middle East and Africa has also spread to Libya, Morocco and Yemen.
