Expedia Corporate Travel claims to be the first to offer global carbon offsetting in the corporate travel market. The company has signed a partnership with TerraPass, a leading retailer of greenhouse gas reduction projects.
Environmentally-conscious businesses will be offered the chance both to calculate and then offset their carbon footprint. From April, Expedia Corporate Travel customers will be able to buy TerraPass carbon offsets, which will balance the carbon emissions of travel with funding for clean energy products, such as wind farms and ”cow power” methane capture plants on US dairy farms.
Various TerraPass options are available for corporations, from short, medium and long-haul flights, to annual road travel, as well as total emissions from individual travellers or entire companies. Expedia Corporate Travel plans to embrace the final option and become a TerraPass Green Company by the end of the year.
”Expedia Corporate Travel is dedicated to practicing ecologically responsible travel, and we are proud to extend environmentally-conscious options such as TerraPass carbon offsets to our customers around the globe,” said Expedia Corporate Travel, president Jean-Pierre Remy.
”We are committed to making a positive impact on business travel, by implementing our own green travel policy, as well as through industry advocacy for, and the promotion of, green travel policies. We invite our customers to join us in this endeavour.”
