Accounting and consulting company Deloitte has reduced its annual spend on meetings and events by £1 million.
According to Yvette Rudge, senior category manager at Deloitte, cutting the company's meetings and events spend has been an ongoing process over the past three years.
Choosing a single events venue agent is key, said Rudge. The company has also reduced its number of suppliers.
For all training and learning events, both residential and non-residential, Deloitte uses properties that are part of the Principal Hayley group. Deloitte has a standard package across all properties, said Rudge.
For all other types of events, Deloitte has chosen four preferred suppliers, which Rudge preferred not to name, but between the four hotel groups, there are more than 300 properties, she said.
"We're in a much clearer position than three years ago," said Rudge, although it did require a significant amount of resources and time, she admitted.
Deloitte, which in the UK has an annual turnover of £2 billion, has no set meetings and events policy, but does have a written travel policy.
The company may introduce a meetings and events policy in the future, said Rudge.
