Capita Travel and Events has reached an agreement with British Airways and Iberia that will enable its customers to avoid paying the airlines’ GDS surcharge.
The news is the latest in a string of agreements reached with numerous travel agencies over the past two weeks. BA and Iberia are currently offering the deal to TMC partners booking through the Amadeus GDS, but the airlines say they are working with other providers to extend the waiver across multiple platforms. The £8 per leg fee will come into effect from November 1.
Trevor Elswood, chief commercial officer at Capita Travel and Events, said: “The world of airline distribution was inevitably going to change and evolve and we recognise that. So we’ve been working through a strategic programme to ensure that we can shape our value proposition around the forecasted changes. That means working closely and in partnership with airlines, GDSs, online booking tools and third-party aggregators, to achieve uncompromised multi-source content in the most cost-effective manner.”
