Booking.com has announced it will become the first online US travel brand to offer hotel properties for certain US travellers visiting Cuba.
The company’s move follows the recent loosening of restrictions for U.S. travellers to Cuba.
The announcement means that Cuba will soon become bookable for U.S. travellers that meet the criteria approved by the US government for travel to Cuba.
To begin with properties will be available in Havana but this should increase over the next few months.
“With the news of the easing of U.S. travel restrictions, we began working immediately with the local Cuban government, tourism authorities and our local hotel partners to launch the first platform to allow travellers to book and confirm instantly with the click of a button,” said Todd Dunlap, managing director, Americas, Booking.com.
Since the turn of the year US airlines have been planning to offer flights to Cuba following a relaxation of travel restrictions announced by US president Barack Obama in December.
