Airplus to launch unified European corporate card

By Molly Dyson / 14 May 2018 / Contact Reporter
Business Travel News on X

During a press event last week, new Airplus International MD Spencer Hanlon (pictured) revealed that the company plans to launch a corporate card solution that will work across 19 European markets.

The unified European solution will offer self-issued, single lodge, virtual and company cards under a single portal with one contract.

Hanlon commented: “We’re using our heritage to develop a unified solution that will work across all 19 of these key European markets. This removes the need for country-specific agreements on lending.”

Currently, customers can only perform administration tasks on cards using country-specific portals, but companies will soon be able to handle tasks using one central system.

Hanlon said the cards will operate in local currencies, including Swiss francs, euros, pounds and Danish krone, among others, and will be rolled out in phases starting this September. Support will also be offered in a variety of local languages.

The cards will be issued on Mastercard.

The news came as Airplus revealed its 2017 financial report, with the payment solution firm experiencing 8 per cent growth in revenues to €313 million. The UK division alone recorded issuing volumes of €945.2 million – head and shoulders above the 2016 figure of €832.9 million.

Airplus completed integration of Belgian payment firm BCC Corporate in 2017, which earned the company another 85,000 cards and 41 employees.

Hanlon said Airplus is also seeing significant growth in APAC, with the company partnering with Japan Airlines.

In addition, Airplus is preparing to expand its AIDA payment solution into Ireland following what UK country manager Paul Spelman called “strong demand” from clients.

More details of these future developments will be released at a later date.
