Virgin Trains customers will now be able to bid for upgrades to first class on East Coast services using the new Seatfrog app. The move will enable the provider to utilise unsold seats.
The Seatfrog smartphone app allows customers to place bids for first-class upgrades up to 30 minutes before departure, with auctions opening approximately two-and-a-half hours before the train’s scheduled leaving time. Virgin Trains says winners will be entitled to complimentary food and drink, free wifi and access to first-class lounges at certain stations.
Auctions will be available on selected services for both business and leisure travellers from Monday to Friday for journeys between King’s Cross and Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh and York, including stops along each route. The company says more routes will be added at a later date.
