European on-demand transportation platform Bolt has launched an ‘XL’ category of larger vehicles to rival a similar class offered by rival Uber.
The new category is suitable for larger groups of passengers, with vehicles –typically SUVs and minivans – seating up to six people.
Estonia-based Bolt launched services in London in June this year and claims to take half the commission charged by its competitors from drivers, which in turn creates lower fares for customers.
UK country manager Sam Raciti commented: “Following the successful launch of our platform in June, we are excited to be introducing the XL category in London. Bolt is committed to delivering an exceptional service to its customers and offering larger capacity vehicles is an important element of that. It is also vital to achieving the aims of our ‘Green Plan’ environmental strategy, as large families and groups can now travel together in a single vehicle, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of each individual passenger.”
Last month, Bolt announced that all journeys booked through its platform in Europe will be carbon neutral through an offsetting scheme as part of its ‘Green Plan’ strategy, which includes a €10 million investment through 2025. It said the scheme will cut emissions by at least 5 million tonnes.
