Uber has been offering free rides and meals for frontline
medical staff around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic to get them to and
from hospitals and patients’ homes.
In the UK, the company is working with the NHS and HSC (in
Northern Ireland) and has committed to providing 200,000 free rides to and from
work for medical staff. Workers can claim up to ten rides per week up to a
value of £15 each using a code that will change on a weekly basis. If the fare
is more than £15, the staff member will only pay the difference.
Additionally, Uber Eats will be giving away 100,000 free
meals up to a value of £10 (with workers paying the difference for meals more
than £10). Staff can claim up to five meals per week.

The company has also been working to provide similar initiatives
across Europe, Latin America, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Uber had already made its JUMP electric bikes free to use for
NHS staff in the London boroughs of Camden, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea
and Hackney with a maximum 50 redemptions per staff member and a cap of £10 per
trip.
