Online rail retailer TheTrainline is to introduce a carbon emissions reporting service to help companies manage their carbon footprint. The new service has been developed in response to the growing pressure from government and other industry bodies for companies to reduce and offset their carbon emissions.
Following the success of preliminary trials, the service will be available from March 2007. The company uses an externally validated mileage database that calculates the amount of carbon dioxide generated by the traveller”s rail journey, using the accredited DEFRA (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) emissions standard. If requested the information will then be supplied to the company via their monthly management information report.
